Scratch-off ticket from South Brunswick supermarket earns college student $10,000

"I have never won anything," said the 20-year-old Middlesex County College marketing student.

"They gave me this thing. I thought it was a coupon. I didn't think anything of it," she recalled.

"Then two days later, my dad came home and he had one...I pulled mine out. I scratched it off two days later," she said.

The graduate of South Brunswick High School shops at the Stop & Shop on Route 27.

Supermarket representatives plan to present the $10,000 check to Walton at 11 a.m. Thursday at the store, which is at 3333 Route 27 in Franklin Park.

The money raised locally in the supermarket promotion goes to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, said store publicist Howard Cannon.

The supermarket chain's Triple Winner program has raised more than $5 million to battle pediatric cancer, with local donations — shoppers receive the scratch-off ticket if they make a $1 donation at the checkout register — benefiting Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
